Merchant Center final GTIN
Open one affected item and record the final GTIN, item ID, country, language, and variant attributes. Use the final attribute rather than assuming the source value reached Google unchanged.
Invalid value [gtin]
An invalid GTIN warning is not a request to fill the barcode field with any number. It means the submitted identifier failed a structural, prefix, assignment, or product-matching check. Start with the exact sellable variant and the manufacturer-assigned code.

Google accepts GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13, and GTIN-14 formats when the number is legitimate for the item. A value can fail because its length or check digit is wrong, it uses a restricted or coupon prefix, it belongs to a different product, or an internal SKU was submitted as a barcode. A structurally valid number still does not prove product ownership or assignment.
Keep the item ID, variant, target country, currency, and observation time aligned while troubleshooting.

Open the matching product variant and inspect its Barcode value. Check color, size, pack quantity, and other options so a parent product's code is not compared with a different sellable variant.
Compare the value with product packaging, manufacturer records, or GS1 ownership data. Validation software can confirm a check digit but cannot prove that the company assigned the number to this exact item.
A merchant-created SKU is an internal operations identifier. It is not automatically a manufacturer-assigned GTIN and should not be copied merely to clear a warning.
Different sizes, colors, or pack levels commonly have different GTINs. Reusing a parent or sibling variant's code can create conflicts even when the number itself has a correct check digit.
Custom, handmade, or one-of-a-kind products may legitimately have no assigned GTIN. Confirm that status and use the destination's identifier settings instead of fabricating a number.
The browser checker recognizes common Merchant Center messages without connecting or storing account data.
Open error checkerOnly if that value is also the legitimate GTIN assigned to the exact product, which is uncommon. Shopify SKUs and manufacturer-assigned GTINs serve different purposes.
Remove an incorrect value rather than leaving misinformation, but first confirm whether the product has a correct assigned GTIN that should replace it. Products with assigned identifiers may still need that accurate value.
