Mismatched value (page crawl) [availability]

Mismatched Availability in Shopify: Merchant Center Fix Guide

Availability errors usually hide at variant level. A product can look in stock while the exact size or color submitted to Google is sold out, unpublished in a market, set to continue selling, or rendered differently to Google's crawler.

Priority

Fix first

Where to check

Shopify admin > Products > product > variant inventory and sales-channel availability

What the message means

Google expects the submitted availability to match the purchase state on the landing page. An in-stock offer should be purchasable, while an out-of-stock offer should clearly show that state. Shopify inventory, Continue selling when out of stock, fulfillment behavior, sales-channel publication, markets, variant URLs, and delayed synchronization can change the result.

Compare these three records

Keep the item ID, variant, target country, currency, and observation time aligned while troubleshooting.

1

Merchant Center final availability

Open the affected item and capture its final availability, item ID, target country, and variant values. Identify whether Google evaluated in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder, or backorder.

2

Shopify inventory policy

Check the exact variant's inventory level, tracked locations, Continue selling when out of stock setting, fulfillment assignment, publication, and target-market availability.

3

Public purchase state

Load the exact variant as a shopper. Confirm its selected options, availability text, buy-button state, structured offer availability, and ability to proceed toward checkout agree.

Fix sequence

  1. Step 1: Compare the exact Merchant Center item and variant with the selected Shopify variant, not only the parent product.
  2. Step 2: Confirm inventory policy, stock level, Continue selling when out of stock, and market availability describe the real purchase state.
  3. Step 3: Make sure in-stock variants have an active purchase action and unavailable variants are visibly unavailable.

Avoid these wrong fixes

Checking only the parent product

One available variant can make the product page look purchasable while the specific submitted size or color remains unavailable.

Changing visible copy without inventory behavior

Writing 'in stock' in the theme does not make an unavailable variant purchasable and can create a more serious contradiction.

Ignoring market or location differences

A variant can be available globally in Shopify admin but unavailable to the target market or unsupported by the fulfillment location used for that destination.

Verify after synchronization

  1. 1Select the exact affected variant on the public product page and record its purchase state.
  2. 2Confirm Shopify inventory policy and target-market publication produce the intended availability.
  3. 3Wait for the Google & YouTube channel or chosen source to refresh the same item ID.
  4. 4Compare final Merchant Center availability and allow a page recrawl before confirming resolution.

Questions

Why is Google seeing out of stock when Shopify shows inventory?

The exact variant, market, fulfillment location, publication state, or rendered buy-button behavior can differ from the parent product's overall inventory. Compare the affected item ID and selected variant directly.

Should I enable Continue selling when out of stock to clear the error?

Only when the merchant genuinely accepts those orders and the landing page clearly supports that purchase state. Do not change inventory policy solely to remove a diagnostic.
